The Rose Theatre - auditorium

Our architect has designed a building with the specific needs of St Mary’s in mind. The clever use of flexible moveable seating provides  a spacious auditorium which accommodates up to 420 people when we have assemblies or a whole school event, such as House plays, House music, public speaking, St Cecilia’s day and Shrove Tuesday. A fast and easy re-arrangement of seats creates a more intimate setting when we have fewer performers and a smaller audience. We are able to stage full orchestra performances, major musicals and theatrical productions as well as small-scale dramas, lectures, debates, more experimental presentations and theatre-in-the-round, all with professional technical equipment.

The provision of well designed dressing rooms and plenty of storage space for scenery, props and costumes allows us to host visiting performing companies and to arrange co-productions with other schools. These are essential opportunities which are not only educational, social and enjoyable experiences for the girls but are also an effective link to the wider community.
