Pastoral Care

At St Mary’s School Ascot we are very proud of our pastoral care. Our recent ISI inspection (Jan 07) said: The quality of pastoral care and the provision for the welfare, health and safety of the pupils are outstanding, fully meeting the school’s intention to give the pastoral care of its pupils utmost importance with all staff sharing in this responsibility.
Every girl is placed in a House when she arrives with us in Year 7, Year 9 or Lower Sixth. In each House there is a spread of talents and abilities but sisters and cousins are placed in the same Houses. A girl’s Head of House is the most important adult she is in contact with, being in overall charge of her academic and pastoral care. However, there are many people who share this responsibility giving girls a large pool of people to talk and listen to: their tutor, their Year Co-ordinator, their Deputy Head of House, their residential members of staff, their teachers, the Headmistress and the Deputy Heads, Fr Dermot, the School’s Independent Listener, the School Nurse and the School Doctor.
All Heads of House enjoy close relationships with parents forming a strong partnership of care between school and parents.
