History

All girls in years 7-9 study history.  In each year there is an element of British history starting from 1066 and finishing in 1900.  In addition in year 7 Imperial China is studied, in year 8 The French Revolution and in year 9 elements of world history - Ireland and the Troubles, the causes of World War 1 and the Holocaust.  To enhance their understanding, pupils are also taken on trips and have workshops in school.  At GCSE the OCR Modern World History syllabus is followed.  This comprises a Core Content of International Relations 1919-2005 and Depth Studies on Britain 1890-1918 and Germany 1918-1945. Coursework is done on terrorism since 1969 comprises 25% of the total mark.

Girls in lesson in classroom

The A level syllabus is Edexel.  In LVI for the Historical Theme

in Breadth they study Russia from 1881-1953 looking at the change from Autocracy to Dictatorship and the rule of Stalin. In the Early Modern British History unit they study Henry VIII: Authority, Nation and Religion, 1509-1540.  In UVI they investigate the French Revolution, Napoleon and the Restoration of the Monarchy and study and then complete coursework on the civil rights movement in the USA.
