Development

St Mary’s School Ascot is highly successful in terms of academic results and achievement, our reputation and popularity, and our strength of faith and mission. The resources and facilities are impressive and the school has further ambitious plans for the future.

Our Concert Hall which was built in 1914 has been, over the years, the venue for countless excellent productions. However, there were many limitations in the dated facilities it provided and it was considered that the time had come to invest in a Performing Arts Centre.

The opening in January 2005 of our wonderful sports facility, The Orchard Centre, meant that the old gymnasium was vacated. This site was  perfect for a new theatre, since it was  situated at the heart of the school campus and was  ideal for the girls when they are busy rehearsing late into the night and when we are using the Performing Arts Centre for late evening events.

Mansell the builders were appointed to construct a state of the art theatre in order to provide significant opportunities for the pupils to develop their musical and dramatic talents and give the enthusiastic drama and music departments more scope for diverse productions. The new, large building was based on the footprints of the old gymnasium.

After a 20 month build period, our state of the art Performing Arts Centre was opened in April 2009 and includes a spacious auditorium which can accommodate up to 440 people, a fully equipped drama studio, make up and dressing rooms, large foyers and a bar area, a gallery for art displays and lighting catwalks and control room with teaching facilities.
