Chaplaincy

'Our school chaplain is Father 'D' short for Father Dermot. We've always thought of Father D as a cuddly teddy bear whom you go to for help when you are in trouble and whom you go to when you are sad.

The good thing about him is that you can tell him anything you want, without being afraid or it getting to the teachers if you are in trouble, because he is very experienced at it, and he is also open to everything.

He is a very kind man and is also very humorous, because in his sermons in Mass, he frequently mentions about things that are modern, and appropriate to our age groups, such as the latest movies! What we find amazing about Father D is how he finds something funny or interesting to talk about at every mass!

Also, he is one of those people who is NEVER in a bad mood! He is always whistling or singing to himself down the corridors.

He is never angry at you, and is very sensitive. Also, he sometimes pops his head round the door of the classroom, and pulls a funny face! As many children will have experienced, the teachers never get annoyed, because he is a peaceful man, and never means any harm! Father D is very playful and full of life which is why he is a pleasure to be around.

Father D was really sweet because he offered to baptise the animals at the pet shed.

The whole of the school community, staff, parents and children, love Father Dermot and think he's such an important part of St Mary's'
