The Careers department aims to help each pupil make vital decisions which will give her the basis for a successful future career.
We have a full time Careers Adviser and a well stocked Careers Library.
All students are enrolled into the Independent Schools Careers Organisation (
ISCO). ISCO administer the test at the beginning of year 11 and the results form the basis of constructive careers advice throughout the rest of the student’s school life.
Careers Education
The content and delivery of the careers education programme is co-ordinated by the Careers Adviser and forms part of the school Skills for Life programme.
Elements include advice on choice of GCSE's in Year 9, formal instruction on the use of the careers resources for Year 10.
Year 11 are advised on letter writing for job applications, planning a curriculum vitae, arranging work experience and advice on A level options.
Speakers are invited into school on a regular basis to give an insight into a variety of careers.
For all those in year 11 and above courses and conferences covering specific subjects and careers are also encouraged.
Sixth Form are given individual advice to help them make an informed choice on both higher education courses and university or college.
Anyone wishing to apply for university in America is also given individual help and St. Mary's is a centre for SAT examinations.
