The four dedicated classrooms R1, 2, 3 and 4 are equipped with electronic whiteboards which facilitate the use of specialist software, particularly graph programs and spreadsheets to enhance learning.
The classes are set from the second half of the Michaelmas term of year 7, following an induction program and a series of tests which cover a wide variety of subject areas including algebra, statistics, and investigational work. The sets are reviewed every half term throughout the school and any appropriate movement between groups is then carried out.
The Edexcel examination board is used at GCSE, AS and A level in this subject.Since 2008 the GCSE examination is available at higher and foundation level and all girls have taken it at higher level. Coursework is no longer part of the GCSE examinations.
Both Mathematics and Further Mathematics are offered at AS and A level, and the girls consider the subject both as a support for other curriculum areas and as a discipline in its own right. Four modules in Pure Mathematics (C1 to C4) form the core of the A level course, with three additional pure modules FP1 to FP3 at Further Mathematics. To cover the applied part of the courses, modules in Statistics (S1, S2) and Mechanics (M1, M2, M3) are offered where appropriate and are all assessed by terminal examinations. There is no coursework at A level.
